Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the munus hospitalitatis in favour of the military men in the 4th–6th centuries AD, especially in the light of two titles of the Theodosian Code: CTh. 7.8 (De metatis) and CTh. 7.9 (De salgamo hospitibus non praebendo), and of the corresponding titles of the Codex of Justinian (C. 12.40 and C. 12.41). Here two normative topics basically emerge: (1) the recognition of exemptions (connected to property or to privileged people); (2) the supplies due (or not due) by the host to the military man.
