Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on epistemological views held by British polymath and philosopher Michael Polanyi. Having reexamined the Polanyi’s conception of personal knowledge, the author states that the Polanyi’s idea of personal knowledge is rather a traditional one that can be traced back, through the anthropology of the Fathers of the Church, to Aristotle’s views on individual knowledge. ▶ Keywords: Aristotle, epistemology, Michael Polanyi, mind, personal knowledge, focal consciousness, peripheral consciousness, anthropology.
