ANNIVERSARY OF ELČI IBRAHIM-PASHA'S WAQF IN TRAVNIK

Summary/Abstract: As Isa Bey Ishaković and Gazi Husrev-Bey were important personalities for Sarajevo, as Dizdar Hajdar-aga and Elci Ibrahim-Pasha from Kljuc were important for Travnik. Although he held the position of Bosnian vali less than two years, he has established in Travnik a significant waqf that gave significant cultural and economic development of this city. The central place of his endowment was Madrasah, library, maktab and tekke. For the maintenance of these buildings he endowed Han, barbershop, horseshoer shop, big caffe room with six shops, bakery, buzadzinica (home-made juice shop), and storage for hay, four butchers' shops with slaughterhouses and tannery. This year marks 310 years since the Elči Ibrahim Pasha in 1117/1706, in front of the kadi of Agriboz city in Greece, Mustafa, son of Ahmed and Rumelian kaziasker (chief judge) Abdullah and Anatolian kaziasker Halil, verified the vakufnama (charitable endowment certificate) having legalized his endowments. In this short remembering to the anniversary of the founding of Elči Ibrahim Pasha's waqf, this paper deals with his library, which was active until the '40s of the 20th century, when it was connected to book totals of Gazi Husrev-bey's Library in Sarajevo.
