Summary/Abstract: The longstanding conflict between the Romans and the Illyrians ended in the suppression of the Baton’s uprising in AD 9. The Roman province of Illyricum was subdivided into the Upper and Lower Illyricum, subsequently Pannonia and Dalmatia. The eastern part of Dalmatia province encompassed parts of eastern Bosnia, western Serbia, and northwestern Montenegro. These areas underwent asimilar cultural and historical development, underlying four different phases: the Austro-Hungarian period, the Interwar period, the period of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and the period after 1992 until today. There were four Roman administrative units in the eastern part of Dalmatia province: Municipium Malvesiatium, Domavia, colonia Ris(..?) and Municipium S(..?). The full name of Pljevlja municipium is unknown. However, the solution given by Alföldy,which is m(unicipium) S(iculotarum) is highly plausible. Accordingly, the Siculi were the people who inhabited the very area, not the Pirustae mentioned in the historiographic literature.
