Summary/Abstract: Between 1911 and 1912, Franz Kafka becomes increasingly preoccupied with Judaism, he strikes a friendship with the Yiddish language actor Isaak Löwy, frequently attends the Jewish theater and often writes about his views on his own belonging to the Jewish tradition. All these complex issues are reflected in his fictional oeuvre, especially in the short story The Metamorphosis, written in 1912. This paper aims to explore the long-debated issue of Kafka’s Jewishness in the proximity of his fictional allegory of parasitism and isolation projected in his famed novella.
