Summary/Abstract: Since the dawn of time, the process of treatment has been accompanied by prayer and spiritual care. The priest-physician has a special task ahead of him. He to restore the body and the soul of man. Christ healed both soul and body hence he was called the Divine Healer. The apostles and their successors, the priests, continue the work of Christ. Throughout history, we come across examples of holy priest-doctors. Here are some of them: Evangelist Luke, Unmercenary Saints Cosma and Damian, Unmercenary Holy Martyrs Cyrus and John, the Holy Great Martyr Panteleimon, Martyr Orestes, Martyr Diomidis from Tarsus, Agapetus of the Kiev Caves, Saint Luke (Voino-Yasenetsky). When one of the priests also possesses medical knowledge supported by medical experience, he becomes a physician of both soul and body. The cult of the holy priest-doctors testifies to their genuine life support for the body and soul of man. May their service to God, people and science be an example for the doctors of our day.
