Summary/Abstract: An analysis of certain elements of female burials of the 2nd century AD in the underground tombs of the Southeastern Necropolis has led to some interesting observations concerning aspects of ancient female burial practices in Palmyra. A distinct set of grave goods appears to have accompanied female burials. Moreover, two distinctive emotional patterns concerned young female burials in Palmyra. The varying populations of male to female burials in these tombs could constitute a clue to mortuary practices and social background of the female dead.
