Summary/Abstract: The article presents the results of a Bulgarian adaptation of T. Hinkin and C. Schriesheim's questionnaire on „power bases“, which is based on the J.French and B.Raven’s model. The main constructs related to social power and its forms, as well as mechanisms for influencing the thinking and behavior of employees and workers in organizations are defined. The psychometric qualities of the Bulgarian version of the power bases questionnaire are presented. The results of the study of a group which comprises of various small samples of 100 participants showed very good and excellent coefficients of reliability-consistency (Cronbach’s α) both for the questionnaire as a whole and for the separate subscales. The extracted factorial solution replicates the original model, clearly distinguishing between five subscales that correspond to the five main power bases – rewards power, coercive power, legitimate power, expert power and referent power. These results show that the Bulgarian version has the necessary psychometric qualities to assess the power bases of formal managers.
