Summary/Abstract: In 2007, a new hypogeum was accidentally discovered in the southwest Necropolis. Identified on the basis of epigraphic finds as the tomb of ‛Aqraban, it presented a typical plan featuring a large central gallery ending in an exedra and four lateral ones. The ensuing excavations undertaken by the Palmyra Museum staff resulted in discovering a number of objects: inscribed stelae, banquet slabs and sarcophagi. The tomb yielded also a vast collection of typical grave goods: terracotta lamps, glass vessels and pottery. The most remarkable discovery was a glass cinerary urn; it is the first known instance of cremation in Palmyra.
