Motives of Sinfulness and Unworthiness in Old Serbian Records

Summary/Abstract: This paper explores the motives of sinfulness and unworthiness in the old Serbian records. Throughout the Serbian mediaeval period, the records reflected significant historical, political and social moments for the Serbian people. In addition, the records also show the important poetic assumptions of the entire mediaeval epoch, of which motives of sinfulness and unworthiness are particularly expressed. The aim of the paper is to analyse and synthesise the features of these topoi in the records, to see in what way they are related to the philosophy of a mediaeval man, but also to the entire socio-historical context in which they are created. The specific examples illustrate the conclusions reached in the research. The source will be the most relevant collection of old Serbian records - a four-volume edition of the Old Serbian Writings and Inscriptions by Ljubomir Stojanović.
