ÖMER ŞİFĀĪ’S VOCABULARY CALLED WORK IN KİTĀB-I CEVHERÜ’L-FERĪD Fİ’T-TIBBÜ’L -CEDĪD

Summary/Abstract: In this study, the vocabulary related to the medical terms in the 18th-century Ottoman physician Ömer Şifāī’s called Kitāb-ı Cevherü’l-ferīd fi’t-tıbbü’l-cedīd was examined. The work consists of thirty-one chapters and a description. In this work, Ömer Şifāī mentioned the construction stage of the drugs used in the treatment of various diseases in general and which diseases should be used in the treatment of these diseases. And even how to obtain the substances to be used in the preparation of drugs before the drug is made emphasized, too. For example, topics such as extraction of mines, distillation of water, oils, glue and gums salt extraction from nature are explained gradually. This work, which has not yet been examined by me as a master’s thesis. Due to the volume of the work and the richness in terms of content, the medical vocabulary the work should be evaluated in a separate study. In this article, the contents of the work and the words related to medical terminology are given with their origins and meanings. The aim of this vocabulary study is to reveal the vocabulary in the field of medicine of the period and to provide convenience to those who will do research in this field and similar researches that will be done after that.
