Summary/Abstract: Theologians of the period of the Second Vatican Council, based on the theology of earthly realities, sought to remove the split between theology and life and to respond to the crisis of the social doctrine of the Church at that time. In this context a specific role was played by the political theology, with Johann Batista Metz as its main representative. The article shows and assesses political theology as a new model of the social doctrine of the Church.
