Major Challenges for Poland in the Field of Social Security

Summary/Abstract: The article concerns challenges in the field of social security in Poland. In particular demographic issues were discussed - the most important reasons for the decline of fertility in Poland and proposed solutions for the problem of demographic decline. Problem of unemployment and its adverse effects (especially in the case of long-term unemployment), social exclusion, taking into account social groups, particularly at risk of poverty, the growing spread between the earnings of the richest and the poorest, and the need to revise existing regime of social policy in Poland were also discussed. The article pointed out the overriding role of the state in addressing threats to social security, because its competence is to develop a framework of legal and institutional measures. Social security, however, is the sum of the actions of both state and private institutions and the citizens themselves.
