Summary/Abstract: The article describes the basic issues of the fire safety in historic buildings of particular cultural value. The analysis was done and based on that the main causes of fires in historic buildings in 2003-2012 were characterized. An objective and scope of the National Rescue - Fire Fighting, as well as guidelines to dispose of units of the National Rescue and Fire Fighting fires in historic buildings are presented. It also includes activities and methods of protecting monuments in the case of emergency. The crisis management system in the context of the phases and activities related to their implementation is described. The article presents the assumptions of the innovative system of safety management of historic buildings in urban city centers as a part of a research project about O DOB-BIO7/08/01/2015 funded by the National Centre for Research and Development.
