Chernobyl: collective ideas and life style

Summary/Abstract: The article examines a phenomenon of the Belarusans’ collective ideas concerning the Chernobyl catastrophe. TheChernobyl’s discourse can be found everywhere, however it is eminently vacuous, bearing uncertainty and representing some empty form. Its content is superseded and located in time and space - in the past where the tragic experience loses its palpable connections with the reality or in space locations which are «not here», but «somewhere else» (in Homel Region, evacuation zones, etc.) The catastrophe is perceived as an uncontrollable aggression, invisible enemy, but it does not turn the Belarusan society into a whole resisting this threat. The views about Chernobyl represent fear of the social and political order destruction, which is actively used by the authorities in proving and legitimating their control over society. У працы разгледжаны феномен калектыўных уяўленняў беларусаў пра Чарнобыльскую катастрофу. Дыскурс Чарнобыля прысутнічае паўсюдна, аднак ён у высокай ступені бяззместавы, нясе няпэўнасць, прадстаўляе нейкую пустую форму. Змест выцясняецца і лакалізуецца ў часе і прасторы: у мінулым, дзе трагічнае перажыванне страчвае рэальныя сувязі з рэчаіснасцю, або ў прасторавых лакацыях, якія знаходзяцца «не тут», а ў «іншым месцы» (Гомельскай вобласці, зонах адсялення і г. д.). Катастрофа ўспрымаецца як некантраляваная агрэсія, нябачны вораг, але яна не ператварае беларускую грамадскасць у адзінае цэлае, што супрацьстаіць гэтай пагрозе. Ва ўяўленнях пра Чарнобыль прысутнічае страх разбурэння сацыяльнага і палітычнага парадку, і гэта актыўна выкарыстоўваецца афіцыйнай уладай для сцвярджэння і легітымацыі свайго кантролю над грамадскасцю.
