Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the perception of Bulgaria and the Bulgarians by the participants in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877–1878: the war artist V. V. Vereshchagin, the surgeon in ordinary to the Tsar S. P. Botkin and Cossack officer P. Dukmasov. The author shows how different the assessments of the same phenomena can be depending on the age, profession and social status of witnesses.
