Summary/Abstract: The 19th edition of the Alma Mater Sucevensis Scientific Session (March 7, 2019), organized by the Faculty of History and Geography in Suceava, through its Department of Human and Social-Political Sciences, provided the framework for a new and valuable exchange of ideas and opinions in the field of history. The participants (professors from the “Ștefan cel Mare” University of Suceava, researchers from the Romanian Academy – “Bukovina” Institute in Rădăuţi and “A.D. Xenopol” Institute of History in Iaşi, museum curators, archivists, and librarians) were invited to present, in three sections dedicated to history, the results of their latest documentary or analytical investigations. Apart from the strictly scientific stakes, the Session’s reason remains relevant to the understanding of historical phenomena, institutional mechanisms and topical identity issues, such as the relationship culture – politics – society. Designed as a dialogue between the History professionals, Alma Mater Sucevensis is an important exercise in interrogating the past, demonstrating that the adequate and qualified study of regional or national history completes the restitution effort at the national level.
