Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses essays of Serbian-speaking French learners from the perspective of textual linguistics. Relying on the research from this discipline, the author first defines writing skills in a foreign language. Based on that theoretical background, the author then analyses the essays of A2-level learners attending courses at the French Institute in the city of Banja Luka in order to determine what difficulties they experience while writing a letter to a friend.
