Summary/Abstract: The article is a part of the reflections on the social participation and its role in the financing of urban processes, focusing on the analysis of United Nations, European Union and Polish strategic documents, as well as the the existing Polish law in the field of urban revitalization. Revitalization is considered as a kind of pilot project in the Polish legislative solutions as regards the social participation. The need to respond to the multidimensionality character of the revitalization process can be a difficult test for the Polish local government, and at the same time a valuable experience serving a wider opening on social participation. The aim of the article is to raise awareness of the local governments in the area of the need to be open to a broad public participation, especially in the revitalization processes, as the current trend in European Union and national policy. This trend is presented in European and national documents and legal acts as well as is legitimated by the need to support the financing of urban processes in the future from private sources.
