Summary/Abstract: There is a widespread consensus that contemporary school in France is responsible for the problems that is experiencing the whole system of education. On the one hand decision makers insist on its reform towards the economic imperatives of “globalization” in order to render it more efficient and adequate to customers’ demands. On the other hand school teachers and personnel oppose this state effort arguing that it will facilitate the privatization of public education. In their resistance they are often supported by the contemporary sociological critique. The argument of this article is, however, that the educational reform is introducing a new logic in the relationship between the school and the underprivileged segments of society which is ever more segregationist and works in the perspective of “governing population flows”. In this logic the role of public authorities is redefined as a mere means to facilitate the access to skilling of those who will never be the most wanted on the labor market and will become even more excluded.
