Summary/Abstract: Changes taking place in puberty and adolescence and transitions fromelementary school to middle school and from secondary education to higher education makeadolescents vulnerable to difficulties they may encounter in academic activities and in their socialand emotional functioning. These difficulties may have a long-lasting impact on adolescents’development, which can sometimes extend over the life span. Besides the findings of studies thatfocused on the fluctuations of school motivation, according to which this variable tends to declineafter the transition from elementary education to secondary education, factors that explain theadolescents' disengagement with school deserve to be paid special attention. This work analyzes thefindings of studies tackling the school motivation in Romanian adolescents. Factors that explain thedecline of school motivation are also analyzed.
