Summary/Abstract: The author discusses the referentiality of Magdalena Tulli’s novel, Flaw, to reality and history, with a specific role played by the history of the Holocaust. She claims that the metaliterary character of this writing (“literature made of literature”) does not mean mere play with literary conventions, which would affiliate the book with other “postmodern oddities”, but is an expression of existential stance of a human being for whom the events which have once and for all changed the face of the world (the Holocaust) are mere “stories about them”, while their essence (“real history”) remains latent and ungraspable in the unconsciousness.
