Summary/Abstract: The great migration of nations is one of the main reasons for the collapse of the Roman Empire. The main driving force in it is the Huns, which, when moving westward, pushed the Goths to the boundaries of the Empire. The hypothesis presented here is one possible interpretation of one of the motives governing the Huns in their movement to the West. The problem of establishing trade relations is always a leading issue in relations between nomads and sedentary civilizations. This is also the case with the Huns, which always include in peace agreements or the truce provisions on the regulation of trade relations between them and the Romans. In this case, the accent is put on the possibility that one of their dominants in this trade is silk, as a commodity enjoying considerable demand in the Late Roman Empire because it is a symbol of status and prestige.
