Summary/Abstract: Transformations in health care system are needed to improve medical help with better cost/effectiveness performance. They result in the changes of health care system at each level. The authors present the changes in the clinical pattern, diagnostic and therapy methods in patients hospitalised in Cardiology Department of District Hospital in Radomsko looking atthe cardiology ward organization, patients in 1997, 2004 and 2012 years, which had been the crucial moments in the process of Polish Health Care system reforms. Data from medical records were analysed in 1997, 2004 and 2012 in terms of demographic trends, diagnostic, treatment and organizational patterns, risk factors, hospital mortality, rehospitalizations. Patients hospitalised were older each year. The length of hospital stays hortened. Number of hospitalised increased. The acute and strictly cardiovascular diseases as well as predominantly diagnostic tests for cardiology disorders began to dominate, whilegeneral diseases and diagnostic tests were used less frequently. New treatment methods –both medications and coronaroangioplasty were introduced. The introduction of invasivecoronary treatment was a cornerstone. All transformations in the department resulted largelyfrom the reforms of health care system, however the achievements in science and medicine played significant role as well.All changes resulted in the significant reduction of mortality and re-hospitalizations.
