How Cities Can Grow Up on the Start-ups’ Culture

Summary/Abstract: Sustainable development of cities nowadays requires, among other changes inspatial planning and financing investments. The “new urbanism” emphasizes that cities should be created primarily for people and by people, by the local community. There is a widespread belief that the presence of start-up firms in urban space supports the economy ofa city, giving direction to the development of its surroundings. However, mutual benefit scan go far beyond the economic area. On the one hand, cities can learn from the start-up show to manage, including the implementation and financing of innovative solutions, especially in housing and public spaces. On the other hand, the presence of start-ups in spacerevives the urban fabric and functional links between all stakeholders: residents, business,various types of organizations and city authorities. The article aims to analyze elements ofthe organizational culture of start-ups, supporting the city in solving contemporary problems, as well as analysis of the potential impact of innovative projects on the functioning of urban space. The study refers to the results of research carried out at start-ups in Wroclaw.
