Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the aspect of import and film distribution politics of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, focusing on the People’s Republic of China`s cinema and its critical coverage in the professional film press. The ‘Kinoizkustvo’ (‘Cinema art’) and ‘Filmovi novini’ (‘Film News’) journals are the only official editions who actively promote the aesthetics and the messages of the new socialist order through the screen. In the 1950s, relations between Bulgaria and China were very intense and were part of the state cultural policies of both countries. The cinema as an instrument of dialogue between two countries has not been studied in Bulgarian research studies. In a comparative plan, the two cinematographies show very similar processes of transition to the socialist type of industry.
