Summary/Abstract: The article presents a critical review of the most important theoretical approach esconcerning foreign direct investments, confronting it with the current situation on the FDImarkets. The so far interest in the expansion of international investment emphasizes the role of economic giants, i.e. American investments and other highly developed economies as wellas by transnational corporations. Meanwhile, during at least the last decade, competitors from the so called arising markets, i.e. countries liberalizing the economy, achieving high economic growth, large trade volumes and increasing economic advancement, have emerged. In addition to China and India, today’s giants of the global economy, there are also other investors coming from these markets. The theoretical out put to date, has too much extent, a historical character. There is even no universal definition of FDI, considering the type of an investment and the interest of the host country. Thus the purpose of the following text is to confront the motives of FDI from arising markets with the current state of theoretical approaches.
