Summary/Abstract: Costs associated with malignancies in Poland are estimated at 3.6 billion euro per year, of which 1.3 billion are costs associated with reduced productivity associated with premature mortality due to cancer. The material for the study was a database created on the basis of 387,312 death cards, including 94,117 deaths from malignant neoplasms Polish residents in 2013. To calculate the standard expected years of life lost, the indicators SEYLLp (Standard Expected Years of Life Lost per living person) and SEYLLd (Standard Expected Years of Life Lost per death) were used. In 2013, in Poland the absolute number of standard expected years of life lost due to malignant tumors in total amounted more than 1 million years in men and nearly 800 thousand years in a group of women, that per 10 thousand population meant 558.9 years lost per 10 thousand men and 402.0 years lost per 10 thousand women. Among men, the highest share in the years of life lost had cancer of the trachea, bronchus and lung (SEYLLp = 175.2) and colon cancer (SEYLLp = 37.1). Among women the cause of the greatest number of life years lost were malignant neoplasms of the trachea, bronchus and lung (SEYLLp = 69.8), and breast cancer (SEYLLp = 61.8). From an economic point of view, the most effective may be preventive actions aimed at reducing deaths causing a great number of productive life years lost due to malignant tumors of the trachea, bronchus and lung in both sexes and breast malignant tumors among women.
