Summary/Abstract: In knowledge-based economies, employees are considered the most valuable capitalof modern organizations – the main elements of intellectual capital and the source of added value. These assets may be subject to either appreciation or depreciation. Since the latter is,without any doubt, an undesirable phenomenon, it is vital to identify the factors that may initiate or intensify the process of human capital depreciation. The main reasons for the loss of the value of human capital should be sought within organizations. Dysfunctions in the area of human resource management resulting in an inappropriate capital use and development appear to be crucial here. Research undertaken by the author focused on the influence of selected dysfunctions in the area of the personnel function on the condition of human capital. The aim of this study was to identify those areas of human resource management in which the appearance of dysfunctions strongly affects the depreciation of human capital. Therefore, the research attempts to assess the impact of selected dysfunctions on the state of the human capital of the organization.
