Summary/Abstract: Employees appraisal could bring a lot of benefits to both organization and employees. It is however a process not always accepted by the workers. Acceptance is regarded as oneof the most important factors of the appraisal system effectiveness. The goal of this paper is to analyse and evaluate the relationship between criteria structure in the institution of higher education and their perception by the employees. Presented research refers to the relationship between a level of criteria structure complexity and knowledge about these criteria as declared by the employees, evaluation of their understand ability and a conviction that the criteria arerelated to the important aspects of subject’s work. These variables are listed among the appraisal system acceptance’s factors. The analysis concerns opinions of the employees of two departments of University X. Sets of appraisal criteria are essentially different. The technique of questionnaire was used in the research. 165 out of 347 delivered questionnaires were filled in.The analysis points out that declared knowledge about appraisal criteria is higher when the criteria structure is simpler. Criteria understand ability relates to their declared knowledge. However level of simplification of criteria structure does not relate to the conviction that the criteria are connected with the important aspects of subject’s work.
