Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of the article is to attempt to outline the issues related to various aspects and concepts of road transport, its impact on the economy and there view of transport needs. The article presents the current situation related to instrumental transport needs, a description of the sources of these needs, as well as defines the role and importance of road transport in the national economy. The article will also present regulations and deregulations of the economy in the world and in Europe related to transport, in particular road, and conditions of road transport in EU countries, including Poland. Road transport is also perceived by the author as a source of generated threats and their elimination poses new challenges in order to maintain a high level of safety in road transport.
