Summary/Abstract: The automotive industry engages numerous branches of production from the metallurgical business to advanced IT technologies. This creates a high level of investments,stimulates research and development and generates a large number of workplaces. The objective of this paper is the analysis of contemporary changes taking place in the automotive industry in the context of technological, political and competitive conditions. The paper discusses the issues of reciprocity between the sub supplier and the final producer in the process of car production, principles of shaping different levels and functions of suppliers inthe Global Value Chain, tendencies in locating new factories, as well as forms of support forthe development of the automotive industry by the government.
