Possibilities of Decreasing Economic Risk Through the Use of Public Information Systems

Summary/Abstract: The article presents possibilities of the use of public information systems to facilitate the operaions and achieving of strategic goals of SMEs. It describes the basic principles of how are those systems build and indicates the ways of exploring data they contain. It can be claimed that, despite advanced stage of developement those systems are in fact not used by SMEs and the article explains the reasons for that. It also presents the analysis of present IT tools used in public information systems. For the purpose of the article a research on worldwide and national statistical data sources e.g. Eurostat, Word Bank and Polish Central Statistical Office (GUS) was conducted. Following that the autor presents the most important findings and conclusions on how can those systems be used by SMEs in the future.
