Socio-cultural factors in the formation of the image of the piano

Summary/Abstract: Purpose of Article. The article identifies non-musical socio-cultural factors in the creation of the "image of the instrument" and their role in the development of the piano art. Methodology. The research methodology is based on the methods of elementary-theoretical and structural-genetic analysis and synthesis, historical, comparative and systemic methods of epistemology. Cultural and interdisciplinary methods help to identify socio-cultural factors in the formation of the images of the piano through their reflection in various fields of art and culture. Scientific Novelty. In the article, for the first time in Ukrainian musicology, the importance of socio-cultural factors in the formation of various images of the piano is considered, such as the saloon piano, piano as a marker of social prestige, piano as an object of luxury and visual pleasure, piano as a commercial product. Conclusions. The concept of "the image of the piano" is not identical to the concept of "the sound image of the piano." Throughout the history of piano development in public and cultural consciousness, a significant number of ideas about the instrument and its images were created and fixed, which were conditioned by socio-cultural factors. The study of socio-cultural factors in the formation of images of the piano is necessary for understanding the genesis of various sound images of the piano that are inextricably linked, given the prevalence and popularity of the instrument, with the social conditions of its existence.
