Summary/Abstract: Purpose of Article. The research systematized the information about Y. Babuniak as a bandurist and covered the main periods of his creative activity in the field of kobzar performance for the 1939-1947 years. The research methodology consists of a comparative analysis of the existing information about Y. Babuniak in printed sources with memoirs of the ensemble members, created by him and with the materials from the Babuniak family archive. The scientific novelty is that this is the first attempt to study information on Y. Babuniak as a bandura player by the most reliable sources; refutation of published distortions, errors and generalized exclusion of the most accurate information about his activity during this period. Conclusions. Yaroslav Babuniak is not only a famous conductor, singer but also a bandore player who has made a significant contribution to the development of national culture in Ukraine and the area of the western Ukrainian diaspora. His work as a bandore player for 1939-1947 can be chronologically divided into four periods, where Y. Babuniak has shown himself as a capable student, talented performer, good arranger and demanding teacher. Y. Babuniak, while in the «Galicia» division, carried on bandura performance through the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany. When he was in the camp for the prisoners of war in Rimini (Italy), he organized the production of bandores and training how to play on them; with his students, he was the first representative of bandore art in Italy (later in Great Britain). Concert performances and repertoire included not only the solace for the captives, but also strengthened the spirit of Ukraine, the will to fight and inspired belief in gaining Independence of Ukraine; popularized the bandore among strangers, with the help of folk songs and dumy (Ukrainian folk ballad) opened them to Ukraine, its history.
