Summary/Abstract: Purpose of Research. The purpose of the work is to answer the question whether the existence and the artistic expression of the universal female image, especially the image of the Mother of God, in the European and Ukrainian cultures are possible. Methodology. The research methodology includes generalizing of the existing knowledge in the field of cultural studies, ethnology and art studies, and also supplementing of them with the attempt of a rationalist search of origins and the essence of the universal female image in the spiritual sphere of humanity. Scientific Novelty. The scientific novelty consists in the highlighting of the principles of the existence of the image of Mother of God in the modern Ukrainian cultural space. Conclusions. The image of Mother of God is cross-cultural in the world space. Specifically, in contemporary art and literature, in particular Ukrainian one, this image is enriched with such distinct characteristics as Sophia, Cordocentrism, and a deep sense of nature as the maternal origin of being.
