Ukrainian identity in historical and cultural retrospective

Summary/Abstract: Purpose of Research. The purpose of the article is the retrospective review of the Ukrainian identity by the method of modeling. Methodology. The main method of the research is the method of modelling. Scientific Novelty. The scientific novelty is the definition of the leading historical and cultural models of Ukranian identities and the connection between them. Conclusions. It has been shown that ethnocultural, ethnopolitical, religious-dynastic, early modern, classical identity models, the model of the dual identity of the Ukrainians both in the Soviet Union and in the diaspora are consistently changing each other in the history of Ukrainian culture. It is noted that the model of current multilevel Ukrainian identity is an inverted reflection of the multifaced of Ukranian culture. The most representative, political, level of identity is connected with the most narrow, Postmodern segment, which is one of the reasons for its current instability.
