New trends in Ukrainian jazz

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to reveal the peculiarities of the development of contemporary Ukrainian jazz art and outline existing new trends, which appear to be perspective directions of its further formation. The methodology is to involve historical and comparative methods. Due to the analysis of the stage of the birth of jazz art in the Ukrainian space, the achievements, which are characterized by modern jazz art, are more prominently determined. Scientific novelty is connected with research of current tendencies of Ukrainian jazz development. One can distinguish as the central principle of today's interest in commercial areas of jazz art, with the dominant feature is the desire for a stylistic synthesis of phenomena related to various spheres of musical art. Conclusions. Even though at the stage of its birth, jazz art of the Soviet era was primarily controlled by party politics, during the independence period, there was a significant jump in the direction of mastering all styles of jazz. The development of complex infrastructures, such as the emergence of educational institutions where jazz artists are trained, numerous festivals run by leading world-class musicians and Ukrainian collectives, has led to the formation of a highly professional level of jazz performance. A characteristic feature is an interest in jazz styles, which have significant commercial success, aimed at light entertainment, with a pronounced dance nature, a distinct melody, where the emphasis is placed on communicating with listeners. The leading tendency of jazz art is the movement towards the synthesis of different styles and the most progressive combination of jazz and folklore elements.
