Summary/Abstract: This article fits within the scope of two disciplines, namely sociolinguistics and French as a foreign language. It is the result of field work revolving around the stigmatization of language errors by the teacher in the subject of speaking skills and the linguistic insecurity that may herein result. Indeed, the French language teacher emphasizes linguistic correction more than any other elements that would enhance public speaking abilities when it comes to overcoming timidity, working on the scope of the voice, becoming more aware of the importance of speed, gaze, gesture, posture, etc. The expectationsof the academic standards lead the teacher to focus more on errors and their actual correction which may sometimes hamper student learning. The ultimate manifestation of linguistic insecurity may be silence.
