Ukrainian art-films: background and trends in the development of the genre during the Khrushchev «thaw»

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article. The article examines the background and trends of development of artistic and feature films as a leading genre of national cinema 1953–1964. The methodology of this research is the organic combination of the fundamental principles of analysis: objectivity, historicism, systematic, integrated approach, development and pluralism, and to achieve the objectives of the study the following methods of scientific knowledge: problem-chronological, specific historical, statistical, descriptive, logical and analytical. Scientific novelty of the work consists of a comprehensive study and comprehensive coverage of the trends of development of Ukrainian art-films 1953–1964. Conclusions. It is proved that during 1953–1964 significant growth of the Ukrainian film production occurred due to the rapid development of the genre of artistic films, and the weakening of censorship contributed to the spread of Ukrainian subjects and a national language in the process of filmmaking.
