Summary/Abstract: Reflections have been made on inspirations based on nature, which regenerate the identity of architecture. The analysis was placed in the perspective from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century. It was noticed that the crises of architecture and urbanism that were taking place at that time were overcome thanks on concrete inspirations by nature, adequate to current knowledge. The „returns to nature”, which suggest a return to the sources and the „turns towards nature” suggesting a reversal from existing situation towards other, recognized as natural. They also indicate the different aspects of nature, that can be included in two trends of inspirations: formal, based on the stylization of the shapes of nature and rational, consisting in the simplicity and the logic of nature visible in its constructions, processes and principles of functioning. The nature in such a broad sense appears as an inexhaustible source of original inspirations. The indicated examples, despite formal differences, have a similar force of regenerating the identity of architecture in situations of exhausting its forms and their inadequacy to current needs. The conclusions attempt to generalize the phenomenon described.
