Summary/Abstract: This deals with the creation (1928) and the activities of the Airborne and Antigas Defence League which in the interwar period was one of the largest social organizations, having the greatest merit for the development and promotion of aviation among Polish community, and one of the most vital of such institutions in Europe. Without its financial contribution, investment, without the commitment and generosity of the public it would not be possible in those times to achieve a high level of development of the Polish Air Force. The second area of activity of the League was preparing society for airborne and antigas defence. The league initiated the creation of organizational structures of passive defence, including organization of trainings related to airborne and antigas defence. Starting from 1933, public awareness was increased due to a campaign concerning air threat and explaining how to prevent the latter. Instructional camps and various courses were organized. A notable project of the League was providing the civilians with gas masks, which – due to the lack of financial resources and limited production capacity – was not fully completed. Given the economic, social and military situation of the Second Polish Republic, it should be stated that the activities of the League in these conditions was a major contribution to the state defence.
