Summary/Abstract: One of the main differences between the Orthodox and Roman Catholic doctrine is the understanding of the interaction between the grace and the free will. One of the main sources for the Orthodox theology on this topic is the thirteenth book of Conferences written by St. John Cassian († c. 435). In the current work I make a full examination (according to the Latin original text) on the following problems: (1) the place of God‘s grace in the salvation of man, (2) the part that the free will of man takes, (3) the Orthodox teaching about the synergy (co-operation), excellently expressed in the Conference 13. This refers to many other important questions. Such issues are the will of God for the salvation of all men, the difference between foreknowledge and predestination, the beginning of men’s salvation and etc. Their examination in the context of St. John Cassian’s the Conference 13 proves indisputably the Orthodoxy of this text and its author.
