Summary/Abstract: One of the urbanized center of ancient Dardania was Ulpiana and was developed close to hills rich with minerals that later became one of the most important cities of the roman province of Moesia Superior, and later became one of the important center of the Roman province of Dardania. The location of this center is in the region rich with deposits of precious metal mines, an important geostrategic position at the crossroads of the ancient roads that connected East with West. During the Roman Empire was increased the demand for minerals, mines and metals which were essential for the functioning of the monetary system. Ulpiana is connected with region around, such as: mining region of Artana (Novo Brdo), Vendenis, Bërvenik, Justiniana Prima (Cariçingrad), Vranja, Kurshumlia, Trepça, Soçanica,Vushtrri, Vërban and Montenegro of Skopje. The ruins of the castles on the south-eastern side such as Janjevo, Veletin, Vogoçincë, Gadime, Vrellë, Kishnopole, Crërnica etc. and the ruins of the castles on the northeast side like Grashtica, Siqeva, Rimanishta, Tenezhdolli, Vendenisi, Keqekolla, Koliqi, Batllava, Braina, Gradishta in the village of Marec, Artana, Gllama etc, show the role of mining in economic development and the importance of extracting gold, silver and iron ore in the mining of these localities. In Ulpiana flourished even Christianity that is attested by discovering of many churches on the site, and according to different sources two martyrs, Florus and Laurus, witnessed Christ in ancient Ulpiana.
