Legal framework of the promotion of electricity from renewable energy sources and its development

Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on the development of legal framework of the renewable energy in European Union and in the Czech Republic as well. The majority of the paper deals with the “photovoltaic boom” in the Czech Republic which was enabled by the act no. 180/2005 Coll., on the promotion of electricity production from renewable energy sources and its aftermath; especially with the judgment of the Constitutional court which deals with the obligation of those solar energy producers whose plants were put into operation from 1st January 2009 to 31st December 2010 to pay a levy on solar electricity. Finally the paper deals with the new act no. 165/2012 Coll., on supported energy resources and its potentiality for further development of the renewable energy in the Czech Republic.
