Summary/Abstract: In this article, we want to show the gap between what is officially presented in terms of the importance of the French language in Romania today and what the French language has actually become in our country. We extracted some official data from sites that present the French language as still important and then we presented the reality of the French language in Romania today, listing a few reasons for which we can speak of a decline of this language in the Romanian education. The conclusion is a painful one, which shows the fact that French has gone from the state of the language of the elite, to the state of the language of the diaspora workers. The political, economic and educational factors have played a significant role in the decline of this foreign language which is no longer successful among students.
