Summary/Abstract: The study emphasises some results of the activity of the Romanian Social Institute from Bessarabia (1934-1940), mainly the initiation and realization in the region of the first scientific researches in the social area, actions for the cultural edification of the Romanian inter-war society and in order to consolidate the Romanian national spirit within the Bessarabian population. The sociological research in the field, the conferences for disseminating their results, the publication of the Institute Journal and the works of its collaborators are some of the valuable cultural and scientific heritage that the Regional Institute has left. The study presents some places from Bessarabia in which the Institute has carried out scientific research, concretizes the specificity regarding the methodology of the monographic research undertaken, and elucidates more evident the scientific and cultural performance of the institution. Some attention is paid to the description of the negative phenomena (russification and diminution of the Romanian element through colonization of the halogens, etc.), detected in the process of monographic research of the villages and the solutions proposed by the monographic team of the Institute for "strengthening the Romanian element" in the region, including the activities of national education carried out by the institution in the localities subject to scientific research.
