Summary/Abstract: Through comparative analysis of neutral-gender noun diminutives in Bulgarian and Prizren–Timok region dialects of Serbian, four productive formation-semantic types established, featuring the suffixes of –ce, -ence, -cence and –e. In all these types, despite their identical formation structure, there are certain regularities typical either for Bulgarian or Prizren-Timok region idioms. Concerning the semantic function of the prefixes as formation units there are no differential elements, which is expected due to the fact that these belong to Slavic language idioms. The results of the research confirm the regularities stating that the idioms, though close both linguistically and geographically, each show their own specific features in terms of using the formation inventory to produce new lexic units and realising their own communicative function.
