The utilization of taxonomic methods in the appraisal of competitiveness of south Baltic ports

Summary/Abstract: The author used a classification method in order to judge how the competitiveness of Szczecin seaport among the ports of southern Baltic would improve after undertaking the investment of deepening Szczecin-Świnoujscie waterway up to 12.5 metres. The generalized distance measure and cluster analysis were used in the article. The results provided essential arguments for the necessity of undertaking the key investment within the framework of so called SONORA Program which is aimed at the transport infrastructure improvement in the transport corridor between two seas: the Baltic Sea and the Adriatic Sea.
