Summary/Abstract: Bernard Malamud (1914-1986) is one the best known writers of Jewish American literature, which reached its peak in the 1950s. The paper makes a brief introduction to the Holocaust itself, and how it influenced Malamud. Then the article focuses on two novels and two short stories in which the Holocaust is treated symbolically.
